Lipsi

The main harbor, Port Lipsi, is a well-sheltered natural bay located on the southern coast of the island. Technically, it offers mooring spaces for yachts along the northern and western quays, equipped with laid moorings (lazy lines), water, and electricity. The harbor provides excellent protection against the northerly Meltemi winds, though strong southerlies can occasionally bring in a light swell. The seabed is mostly sand, offering reliable holding. Surrounding bays like Katsadia and Platis Gialos provide fantastic sandy anchorages for day stops or overnight stays in calm weather. Navigators should stay alert to the small islets and shallows near the harbor entrance.

Social life in Lipsi flows at an intimate and relaxed pace around traditional fish tavernas, ouzeris, and small cafes along the waterfront. The island's culinary highlights are sun-dried grilled octopus and the famous sweet red Lipsi wine made from the local Fokiano grapes. In the evening, sailors and locals sit side-by-side at harbor tables, creating an unpretentious, authentic island atmosphere filled with ouzo and long conversations.

The most popular activity is exploring the island's beautiful bays and visiting the blue-domed church of Panagia Charou on the hill. For sailors, a mandatory excursion is heading just south of Lipsi to Aspronisia (White Islands), a cluster of tiny islets famous for their blindingly white limestone rocks and neon-turquoise waters, perfect for snorkeling and tender exploration.

Lipsi is a classic Aegean island featured by low rolling hills, olive groves, and thyme-scented wild brush. The cultural identity is strongly preserved around traditional winemaking and fishing traditions. The locals are so dedicated to preserving their peace and environment that mass tourism and large hotel complexes are intentionally restricted, keeping the island's soul completely pure and untouched.

Getting water and electricity on the Port Lipsi quay is very straightforward. Small mini-markets, local butchers, and excellent bakeries easily supply a yacht's daily provisioning needs. Refueling is arranged via mini-tankers on the quay upon request. With its highly secure harbor, friendly locals, and calm beaches, it stands as one of the most comfortable and relaxing stops in the Dodecanese for families.
