Polis Cove

Polis Cove is a historically significant and naturally stunning inlet located on the northwest coast of Ithaca, just below the village of Stavros. Believed to be the ancient harbor mentioned in Homer's Odyssey, this cove is a legendary stop for any premium yacht charter. A blue cruise to Polis Cove offers sailors exceptional sea quality with transparent turquoise waters, ideal for diving and snorkeling. The coastal structure is unique, featuring the famous Loizos Cave at its northern end, where archaeological treasures were found. The underwater remains of an ancient city add a mystical touch to your private anchorage. The pebble beach is framed by lush green hills, and the small waterfront venues provide a sophisticated yet traditional maritime experience for those seeking peace and archaeological depth.

Logistics & Technical

Polis Bay is a wide gulf where the primary base for sailors is Latchi Marina. The harbor offers good protection, particularly from westerly and northerly winds. Access is straightforward, but depths within the marina can be restricted in certain spots, requiring close monitoring of the depth sounder. Yachts typically moor at modern quays with lazy lines. For those preferring to anchor in the bay, the bottom is sandy with excellent holding. Due to its exposure to the open sea, it can experience significant swells during winter.

Gastronomy & Social Life

There are only a couple of local restaurants in the bay, offering a pure "sailor's tavern" experience. Fresh seafood, slow-cooked goat, and organic olive oil dishes are the highlights. Since the bay is remote with no major road access, social life is centered around quiet dinners under the stars, away from the city noise.
