Makarska

Makarska is a well-sheltered natural harbor located along the Brač Channel, protected by the Osejava Peninsula. Technically, it offers mooring spaces for yachts along the northern town quay and modern pontoons equipped with laid moorings (lazy lines), water, and electricity. While the harbor provides solid protection from westerly and southerly winds, the primary technical challenge is the notorious Bora (Bura) wind, which blows down fiercely from the Biokovo Mountains. Makarska is one of the most vibrant social hubs on the Dalmatian coast. The palm-lined promenade right behind the harbor is packed with upscale restaurants, bars, and cafes. The culinary scene shines with fresh Adriatic fish drizzled in local olive oil, "Dalmatinska Pašticada" (slow-cooked beef stew), and the traditional almond-based Makarana cake. Social life is highly energetic, with bustling markets in the old town square and lively music rising from waterfront bars in the evening.

The top activity is heading up to the Biokovo Nature Park and visiting the glass-bottomed Skywalk Biokovo for a breathtaking, panoramic view of the Adriatic islands. In town, the 16th-century Franciscan Monastery and its world-famous Malacological Museum (Sea Shell Museum) is a unique discovery. On the water, Donja Luka beach is perfect for water sports, and the port serves as an excellent strategic base for sailing to Hvar and Brač islands.

Makarska boasts a dramatic landscape where the grey limestone cliffs of the Biokovo range meet lush pine forests right at the sea. The cultural fabric is a rich Mediterranean mosaic shaped by Roman roots, Venetian architecture, and Napoleonic monuments. The town’s narrow stone streets and marble buildings reflect the historic soul of a Dalmatian port that thrived on maritime trade for centuries.

The town quay provides reliable water, electricity, and waste disposal services. Large supermarkets, fresh bakeries, a fish market, and chandleries are all within a few minutes' walking distance from the berths. The fuel station is conveniently located right at the harbor entrance, making it very easy for yachts to dock. Its sheltered nature and extensive urban amenities make it one of the most practical stops for provisioning and families.
