A gulet is a traditional wooden sailing yacht — wide, comfortable and run by a professional crew — and a gulet charter is the most relaxed way to explore the eastern Mediterranean. Born on the Turkish coast, gulets now cruise the bays of Turkey and the Greek islands, ranging from simple family boats to luxury yachts with en-suite cabins, chefs and water toys.

There are two ways to charter a gulet. A private charter gives your group the whole boat for the week — your route, your pace, your people. A cabin charter books a single cabin per person on a set itinerary, a sociable and affordable way to sail for couples and small parties. Either way the rhythm is the same: short daily hops, two or three swim stops, and nights at anchor in quiet bays.

Most gulet holidays run seven nights and depart from bases like Bodrum, Göcek, Fethiye and Marmaris in Turkey, or the Dodecanese and Cyclades in Greece. Tell us where you'd like to sail, your dates and group size, and we'll match you with the right gulet and itinerary.

Good to know

01

When to sail

The gulet season runs from May to October. June and September bring warm water and lighter crowds; July and August are the hottest, liveliest months; May and October are cooler and quieter, good for sailing and shore excursions. Prices follow the same curve, peaking in high summer.

02

A typical week aboard

Days settle into an easy rhythm — a leisurely breakfast at anchor, a short morning sail to the next bay, two or three swim stops, and evenings moored in a quiet cove or a small harbour for dinner ashore.

Most weeks cover a compact stretch of coast rather than long passages, so there is plenty of time to swim, paddle and explore. Your captain adjusts the route to the wind, the weather and what your group feels like doing.

03

What’s included — and what isn’t

A standard private charter covers the boat, the professional crew, fuel for a normal itinerary and harbour fees. Food and drinks are arranged separately as a clear provisioning budget agreed in advance, so there are no surprises. Extras such as extended cruising range, premium drinks or special provisioning are quoted upfront.

04

What to pack

Bring soft bags rather than hard suitcases — they stow easily in the cabins. Pack swimwear, light layers for cool evenings, a hat, reef-safe sunscreen, soft-soled deck shoes and any personal medication. Formal clothes are rarely needed; gulet life is relaxed.

Frequently asked questions

What is a gulet?

A gulet is a traditional Turkish wooden sailing yacht — broad, stable and run by a professional crew. Modern gulets range from simple family boats to luxury yachts with en-suite cabins, air conditioning and water sports gear.

Private charter or cabin charter?

A private charter is the whole boat for your group by the week; a cabin charter books one cabin per person on a fixed itinerary. Private gives full control of the route; cabin is the sociable, lower-cost option for couples and small parties.

Where can you charter a gulet?

Mostly Turkey (Bodrum, Göcek, Fethiye, Marmaris) and Greece (the Dodecanese and Cyclades). Turkey is the home of the gulet and has the largest fleet.

What's included in a gulet charter?

A standard private charter includes the crew, the boat, fuel for a normal itinerary and harbour fees. Food, drinks and optional extras are arranged separately as a clear provisioning budget.

How much does a gulet charter cost?

A private gulet is priced by the week for the whole boat, so the cost per person falls as your group grows; it also varies with the boat’s size, age and the season. Cabin charters start from around €1,040 per person for 7 nights. Send us your dates and group size for an exact quote.

How many people can a gulet sleep?

Most gulets have 4 to 8 cabins and sleep roughly 8 to 16 guests, plus the crew in their own quarters. Cabins are usually doubles or twins with en-suite bathrooms.

When is the best time for a gulet cruise?

The season runs from May to October. June and September offer warm seas with fewer crowds; July and August are the hottest and busiest; May and October are quieter and cooler, ideal for sailing and exploring ashore.

Is a gulet charter good for families?

Very. Gulets are wide and stable, the crew handles the sailing and the cooking, and the daily rhythm of short hops and swim stops suits children. Many boats carry kayaks, paddleboards and snorkelling gear, and cabins can be arranged to keep families together.

What food and drinks are on board?

Meals are prepared by the crew and arranged as a transparent provisioning budget agreed before you sail — you set the style and the boat is stocked accordingly. Most charters include breakfast and one or two meals a day; drinks can be included or bought ashore.

How do I book a gulet charter?

Tell us your dates, group size and preferred stretch of coast, and we’ll propose matching boats and an itinerary. A deposit confirms the booking, with the balance due before departure — we guide you through every step.
