Logistics & Technical

Astypalaia offers excellent natural shelter. The main port, Pera Gialos, provides water and electricity, while the deep bay of Vathi is a legendary "lake-like" refuge during strong Meltemi winds. For those who prefer anchoring, the coves of Maltezana (Analipsi) and the nearby islet of Kounoupi offer sandy bottoms with great holding. Navigation requires care around the small islets and rocks scattered around its "butterfly wings."

Activities & Exploration

Astypalaia is a paradise for "alternative" travelers. The climbing field of Ftera offers 20 routes on excellent limestone with sea views. Hiking trails connect the Chora to remote chapels and caves like the Cave of the Dragon. For sailors, the "island hopping" within the island—to the islets of Koutsomiti and Kounoupi—is a must for the most transparent turquoise waters you’ll ever find.
