Parga

Parga should be considered more as an open anchorage than a functional port for yachts. The small inner harbor is strictly reserved for local fishing and excursion boats. Most sailing vessels anchor in the wide and deep Valtos Bay, located just to the west of the town. Valtos offers good holding on a sandy bottom and provides decent protection from northerly and easterly winds. However, it is exposed to the open sea and can be subject to swells from the west. Access to the town center is easy via frequent water taxis or a scenic walk over the castle hill. Captains should keep a close eye on weather forecasts for any changes in swell.

The most dominant landmark is the Venetian Castle, which offers panoramic views of the town and the sea. Walking through the castle ruins to reach the vantage point overlooking Valtos Bay is highly recommended. At sea, the small Panagia Islet, with its tiny white chapel, is easily reachable by swimming or kayaking. Day trips to the famous Lichnos Cave and other secluded beaches in the vicinity are also popular.

Although on the mainland, Parga feels like an island with its narrow alleys and neoclassical architecture. It boasts a rich history with Venetian, French, and Ottoman influences. The natural scenery is dramatic, where lush pine forests and olive groves meet steep cliffs and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

There is no central marina infrastructure for water or electricity; basic supplies must be sourced from the facilities at Valtos or in the town center. Numerous supermarkets and bakeries are available for provisioning. With its vibrant atmosphere and safe beaches, it is a very popular stop for both couples and families.
