Gokkaya Bay

The batimetry of Gökkaya Bay features irregular depth variations ranging from 5 to 18 meters, with a seabed composed of a sand, mud, and localized rocky patches that offer moderate to good holding capacity. The bay is exceptionally sheltered, providing complete protection from the dominant western and southern swells due to the natural breakwater effect of Aşırlı and Gökkaya islands. Critical navigation notes include exercising extreme caution when entering through the narrow northern channel due to submerged reef projections, avoiding the shallow karstic shallows in the innermost bight, and preparing for sudden cool thermal currents caused by freshwater springs discharging into the marine basin.

The gastronomy of the area centers around authentic Mediterranean and Lycian coastal cuisine, heavily relying on small-scale local producers from the Demre agricultural basin. The social scene is distinctly dualistic; while the inner coves host rustic, family-run waterfront restaurants serving daily caught seafood, specific isolated pockets feature unique, boat-access-only lounge bars that cater to the international cruising community, creating a relaxed yet vibrant social atmosphere within an isolated setting.
