Gaios is the main port and charming center of Paxos island. As one of the most popular stops on yacht charter and blue cruise itineraries in the Ionian Sea, this harbor offers a unique sanctuary for sailors with its sheltered structure accessed through a narrow channel. The approach through the northern channel requires strict adherence to the 2-meter depth contours and awareness of ferry traffic. The seabed consists of sand and silt with patches of seagrass, offering moderate to good holding. While the islet of Agios Nikolaos provides a robust natural breakwater against Ionian swells, the inner canal can experience strong currents during tidal shifts and wash from passing vessels. Stern-to or alongside berthing is standard along the long town quay.
