Dokos

Dokos is an uninhabited gem in the Saronic Gulf, offering an exclusive escape for any premium yacht charter. Famous for being the site of the world's oldest known shipwreck, this island is a paradise for history buffs and those seeking solitude on a blue cruise. The large, well-protected Skintos Bay provides a safe anchorage with exceptional sea quality and transparent waters, ideal for snorkeling and swimming. The rugged coastal structure and lack of modern development preserve the island's raw beauty. A sailing journey to Dokos ensures a peaceful maritime experience where the deep blue meets ancient history and untouched nature.

Logistics & Technical

The primary anchorage is Skintos Bay, a large and deep indentation on the north side. The bathymetry is varied, with depths staying significant until close to the shore. The seabed is a mix of sand, mud, and scattered rocks; while holding is generally good, anchors should be set firmly to resist the occasional heavy gusts that roll down the island’s steep ridges. It offers excellent protection from the Meltemi, though the bay is open to the Northeast.

Dining & Nightlife

Gastronomy & Social Life

Dokos offers almost no commercial infrastructure, which is its primary social appeal. There are no permanent restaurants or bars, save for a few seasonal pop-up tavernas or local shepherd huts. Social life here is confined to the deck of the vessel or quiet beach gatherings. It is the ultimate destination for those seeking a "back-to-basics" maritime experience away from the glamor of neighboring Hydra.

Activities & Exploration

The island is a paradise for hikers and amateur archaeologists. A trek to the summit of the island reveals the remains of a Byzantine castle and breathtaking views of the Saronic Gulf. While the historic shipwreck itself is not visible to the naked eye (having been excavated), the underwater visibility is exceptional for snorkeling along the rocky coastline to observe Mediterranean reef life.

Heritage & Wonders

Culture & Nature

Dokos is a designated archaeological site, serving as a silent witness to Early Helladic maritime trade. The island’s ecosystem is stark, characterized by wild goats, hardy scrubland, and a lack of light pollution that makes it a premier location for stargazing. Its cultural value lies in its absolute isolation and the preservation of its ancient, desolate character.

Practical Info

Practical amenities are non-existent on the island. Vessels must be entirely self-sufficient regarding water, fuel, and provisions. The nearest supply hubs are Hydra or Ermioni. This is a "leave-no-trace" location where waste management must be handled strictly on board. For emergency needs, the proximity to the mainland ensures relatively quick maritime assistance.
