Herceg Novi

Known as the gateway to the Bay of Kotor, Herceg Novi is one of the greenest and sunniest cities on the Adriatic coast. Also called the "City of Stairs," this historic settlement is famous for its exotic plants brought by sailors over centuries, majestic fortresses, and narrow stone streets. The city's historical texture, delightful promenade stretching along the coast, and peaceful beaches make it both a cultural discovery point and a relaxing harbour. Where Mediterranean architecture meets the wild nature of Montenegro, Herceg Novi offers a unique welcome for boats entering the bay.

Logistics & Technical

The approach to Herceg Novi requires careful navigation due to its exposure to the open sea at the entrance of the bay. The town harbor (Gradska Luka - Škver) is protected by a substantial breakwater, but the outer berths remain vulnerable to strong southern winds (Jugo) and occasional westerly squalls which can generate a heavy swell. Bathymetry along the main pier shows depths between 2.5 and 4 meters, with a seabed consisting of rock, sand, and mud pockets, requiring precise anchoring when mooring stern-to. Larger yachts or those seeking complete shelter during adverse weather typically proceed to the nearby Meljine or Portonovi marinas further inside the Herceg Novi bay.
