Kastellorizo

Kastellorizo, also known as Megisti, is the easternmost Greek island, offering a picturesque and intimate setting for any premium yacht charter. Famous for its vibrant neoclassical mansions lining the harbor, this island is a true masterpiece of Mediterranean architecture. A blue cruise to Kastellorizo is incomplete without visiting the legendary Blue Grotto, one of the most stunning sea caves in Europe, featuring exceptional sea quality and glowing azure waters. The rugged coastal structure and deep, transparent sea make it a paradise for diving and swimming. Despite its small size, the island’s sophisticated waterfront venues provide a warm welcome and exquisite local flavors, making it a favorite for those seeking peace and elegance.

Logistics & Technical

The main harbor of Meis, Megisti, is a deep and natural crescent-shaped bay lined with colorful neoclassical houses. Technically, dropping anchor and mooring stern-to the town quay is straightforward, but since depths in the middle of the harbor reach 20-30 meters, sailors must pay out a generous amount of chain. The seabed is sand and mud, providing excellent holding. The harbor offers superb protection from westerly and northerly winds but can be subject to swell during rare strong easterly gusts. Water and electricity are available along the quay, and customs procedures are handled efficiently right at the waterfront.

Gastronomy & Social Life

Social life in Meis flows at an incredibly intimate and slow pace around a handful of waterfront tavernas and cafes. The culinary scene centers on fresh octopus, cuttlefish risotto, and the traditional chickpea patties (revithokeftedes). Dining at the water's edge in the evening while watching the giant Caretta Caretta turtles swim right next to your table is the island's ultimate social ritual. There are no loud clubs or mass luxury; instead, it offers an authentic, preserved island lifestyle.

Activities & Exploration

The undisputed highlight of the island is visiting the Blue Grotto, one of the largest marine caves in the Mediterranean. It can only be entered via a small dinghy, requiring passengers to lie flat; inside, the phosphorescent blue illumination of the water is surreal. On land, you can climb the steep stairs behind the harbor to the Castle of St. John for a breathtaking view looking out towards Kaş. The tiny islet of Agios Georgios is perfect for a quiet swimming stop.

Heritage & Wonders

Culture & Nature

Geologically, Meis is a rugged limestone island, but the vibrant, colorful architecture of the harbor softens this harsh nature. The island’s timeless, romantic Mediterranean culture was immortalized in the Oscar-winning film "Mediterraneo." There is virtually no motorized traffic or industry on the island, ensuring that the air and the sea remain flawlessly pristine.

Personal Insight

Captain's Note

“
"Sailing out of Kaş and gliding into Meis's colorful neoclassical harbor is the most elegant way to change countries by sea. Don't be fooled by the depth in the middle of the bay; drop your anchor securely, pay out plenty of chain, and get ready—the Caretta Carettas will be waiting for you at the quay."
