Gyali

Situated between Nisyros and Kos, Gyali is a unique hidden gem for yacht charter and blue cruise enthusiasts. This volcanic island is famous for its white pumice stones and obsidian deposits, creating a stunning contrast with its crystal-clear turquoise waters. Its untouched nature and pristine coastline offer a perfect anchoring spot for sailors seeking tranquility. With minimal settlement, the island's natural beauty and authentic atmosphere provide a serene escape in the heart of the Dodecanese.

Logistics & Technical

Gyali offers a unique anchorage on its southern coast, sheltered from the northern "Meltemi" winds. The seabed is primarily composed of white volcanic sand and pumice dust, providing good holding but also creating an incredible "swimming pool" effect. There are no permanent residents or marinas, so it is a purely natural stop.

Gastronomy & Social Life

Gyali is uninhabited except for a few quarry workers, meaning there are no restaurants or social venues. It is the ultimate location for a private yacht picnic or a sunset cocktail on the deck. The "social life" here is entirely provided by the natural silence and the colors of the sunset reflecting off the white stones.

Activities & Exploration

The island is a geologist’s dream. Snorkeling here is exceptional because the white bottom reflects light, making the underwater world incredibly bright. Exploring the shoreline by paddleboard or kayak allows you to see the contrast between the white pumice and the black obsidian glass rocks that are scattered along the coast.

Practical Info

There are no provisioning services on Gyali. Yachts must be fully stocked before arrival, usually from nearby Kos or Nisyros. It is a very safe and shallow area for children to swim, but visitors should be mindful of the industrial quarry operations on the northern part of the island.
